- What is the difference between a mobile app and a mobile website?
Mobile Website: A mobile website is similar to any other website in that it consists of internet browser-based pages that are linked together and accessed over the Internet (for mobile typically WiFi, 3G or 4G networks). The obvious characteristic that distinguishes a mobile website from a standard website is the fact that it is designed for the smaller handheld display and touch-screen interface.
Mobile Apps:Apps are actual applications that are downloaded and installed on your smartphone device, rather than being rendered within an internet browser. Users visit device-specific portals such as Apple’s App Store or Google Play in order to find and download apps for a given operating system. The app may pull content and data from the Internet, in similar fashion to a website, or it may download the content so that it can be accessed without an Internet connection.
A mobile application can make use of native smartphone functionality that is not available to mobile websites. These include things like: push notifications, camera, mapping software, accelerometer, etc. Our company offers BOTH a mobile website (our HTML 5 app) and a mobile application. This means the business owner or organization leader does not need to decide between the two options. Instead he or she can gain the enormous benefits of both options.
Important Statistics: Although both a mobile website and a mobile application are important to have as part of a comprehensive communication/marketing structure, one should gain a clear understanding of user preferences. A study conducted by comScore Mobile Metrix 2.0 revealed 82% of time spent with mobile media happens via apps as opposed to mobile websites. Analysis of the percentage of time spent across apps and internet browsers revealed that even though these access methods had similar audience sizes, apps drove the lion’s share of engagement, representing 4 in every 5 mobile media minutes. Each of the mobile properties below have BOTH a mobile-optimized website and a mobile application.
- Can we have our own iTunes and Google Play Developer Accounts?
Absolutely! You should launch all of your mobile applications under your own developer accounts. We will help you establish these accounts. Please note, iTunes charges $99 per year and Google Play charges $24 per year.
